Giuseppe Verdi (1813–1901) is considered the preeminent Italian opera composer of the 19th century. In the course of his remarkable career he composed 28 operas, at least half of which are staples of today’s opera repertory.
The professional librettist Temistocle Solera (1815–1878) wrote the text for Nabucco based on the play Nabuchodonosor by Auguste Anicet-Bourgeois and Francis Cornuand on Antonio Cortesi’s ballet Nabuccodonosor.
